A federal court recently granted summary judgment to Singing River Health System in a case filed under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA). There a maintenance worker claimed the employer terminated her because of her
age. The hospital responded that she had been terminated because she had violated its policies by putting cleaning supplies in her car, and allegedly transporting them to another facility owned by the employer. In rebuttal, the employee claimed she was following a long-approved practice of the Hospital. At the conclusion of discovery, and upon a motion and brief filed by Karl Steinberger and Stacie Zorn, the presiding US District Judge determined no genuine issue of material fact existed, warranting summary judgment for the Hospital.
